A Bradford City fan says he will not let a broken wrist stop him from walking to every home game with his twin brother for the rest of the season to raise funds for the Bradford Burns Unit.
Martin and Steven Stewart set themselves the task of travelling the ten miles on foot to all home games this campaign to help the 25-year memorial fund reach its £100,000 target.
But Martin of Riddlesden, Keighley, slipped on the ice on his way to the Cheltenham match last Saturday, breaking his right wrist in two places.
The incident hasn’t put the 29-year-old Bantams fan off though, and he insists he will be back making the walk to the next home match against Notts County next Saturday.
He said: “I’ll be taking extra care but I should be back for it.
“In fact, I’ve even thought about walking back home from the ground too just to make up for missing the last one.”
Prior to Saturday, the brothers had walked together to each of City’s 14 home league and cup games, raising over £200.
But Steven, who lives in Stockbridge, Keighley, had to make the trip by himself last weekend after Martin’s accident. Steven said: “I know it’s not put him off.”

The Plastic Surgery and Burns Research Unit at the University of Bradford was set up in the wake of the 1985 Bradford FC fire disaster in which 56 people died and over 200 were injured.
The Unit was established with money from public donations and the tremendous efforts of many local groups. Since 1985 the Unit has remained partly funded by voluntary donations.
Plastic Surgery
Plastic Surgery is concerned with the repair and reconstruction of lost, injured and deformed body parts as a result of burns, cancer, trauma and birth defects.
Burns
Burns injuries form a substantial part of the workload of the Plastic Surgeon. In England and Wales burns are responsible for the hospitalisation if over 10,000 people each year. Many of these are children and many are preventable, 30 years ago deaths from burns numbered 2,000 annually. Today this number has fallen to 600 largely due to better understanding and treatment in the post-burn period. Without research this would not have been possible.
However, there is still much room for improvement, particularly in the prevention and treatment of some of the later problems of burns such as adverse scar formation, a source of great physical and psychological disability.
Current research in this Unit is focusing on the problem of wound healing and scarring. We currently investigate the pathophysiology behind scar formation and contracture, along with mechanisms of modifying this phenomenon.
